Framework
Christian Parenting Plan for Boys Ages 5–12
Most Christian fathers know they should be training their sons. Few have a plan. Without structure, good intentions dissolve into reactive parenting — correcting problems instead of building character. This framework gives you a repeatable weekly rhythm built on Scripture, the four pillars, and practical action.
The Weekly Framework
Each week focuses on one pillar. Rotate through all four over the course of a month. This is not a curriculum — it is a rhythm. Keep it simple enough to sustain for years.
Week 1: Discipline
- Scripture: Proverbs 12:1 — "Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge."
- Discussion: "What is one habit you want to build this week?"
- Action: Assign one new responsibility or tighten one existing standard.
- Review: Friday evening — did he follow through consistently?
Week 2: Courage
- Scripture: Joshua 1:9 — "Be strong and courageous."
- Discussion: "What scared you this week? What did you do about it?"
- Action: Give him one task that requires bravery — speaking up, trying something new, or admitting a mistake.
- Review: Friday evening — where did he show courage?
Week 3: Responsibility
- Scripture: Galatians 6:5 — "Each one should carry his own load."
- Discussion: "What are you in charge of? How is it going?"
- Action: Add one ownership task or increase the standard on an existing chore.
- Review: Friday evening — did he complete his duties without being reminded?
Week 4: Leadership
- Scripture: Mark 10:45 — "The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve."
- Discussion: "Who did you help this week without being asked?"
- Action: Assign a service task — help a sibling, serve a neighbor, lead family prayer.
- Review: Friday evening — how did he lead by example?
Daily Rhythm (10 Minutes)
Every evening, regardless of which pillar week it is:
- Read one verse together
- Ask one question about his day
- Name one thing you are proud of
- Pray together — keep it short and honest
Adjusting by Age
- Ages 5–7: Keep tasks physical and visible. Short Scripture. Lots of praise for effort.
- Ages 8–10: Introduce discussion questions. Expect more independence on chores. Begin accountability.
- Ages 11–12: Deeper conversations about character. Let him lead parts of the review. Increase the weight of responsibility.
Start This Week
Determine which pillar week you are in. Pick the Scripture, have the discussion tonight, and assign the action task tomorrow. By Friday, do the review together. Repeat next month.
